Thursday, March 2, 2000:  Mount Cook

After a continental breakfast, we checked out.  It was at this time that Doug discovered he left his travel jacket containing his wallet at the Old Convent.  He called The Old Convent.  They found his jacket in the closet.  They would send it to wherever.  We only knew we’d be at The Stable Saturday, March 4.  I had the business card in my wallet.  Doug gave them the address.

We drove to Mount Cook.  Upon arrival, we checked into The Hermitage, selecting one of their cabins.  We then went to The Hermitage mini mart for groceries.  After putting away the food, we sat for lunch.  I found a phone I could use to call home.  It was good to hear the kids were doing well.

We took a walk to Hooker Valley.  We sunned in the valley surrounded by snow capped mountains.  It was such a warm day, full of fresh air and peacefulness.  Here, among the melting glacier was a part of the world away from it all.

We had a candlelight dinner of steak and potatoes in our own cabin.
